UTOPIA ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCES A WORLD RECORD FOR THE NATURAL RESOURCES DEFENCE COUNCIL
MALIBU, CA – June 4, 2011 - 230 surfers, 66 degree water, and 8 minutes and 30 seconds later the world largest surfboard logo was created for the “Peace Paddle” of 2011. At 250-foot in diameter, our floating peace sign was granted the recognition of the Guinness Book of World Record‘s “Largest Surfboard Logo”, and was a featured activity for the Natural Resources Defense Council/Ron and Kelly Meyer fund raiser in Malibu, California.
Peace Paddle 2011 was a ceremonial paddle-out lead by legendary big-wave surfers Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama. They lead 230 surfers and paddlers from the Southern California community in this paddle-out ceremony honoring the ocean and those who love, respect and defend her. Participants paddled out off the beach at Paradise Cove, in Malibu and worked together to form a peace sign that reached a diameter of 250 feet. This wonderful visual served as a compelling example of unity for the important cause of raising awareness on the threats to our ocean’s health.
“The Peace Paddle united a community of ocean lovers in celebration of the sea and its imperiled resources,” said Karen Garrison, NRDC oceans program co-director. “The Guinness world record allows our celebration to live on, amplifying the importance of ocean protection well beyond that single event. Our thanks to Utopia for their creative experience and organization, which were key to bringing this idea to life.”
In addition to the production of the ceremonial paddle out, Utopia Entertainment also provided the design and operation of a custom web site to allow participants to sign up for and learn more about the event. Utopia also coordinated all of the event logistics including all parking, back of house support, and life safety issues.
